LOUISIANA SECESSION ORDINANCE

This rare document is an ordinance from the State of Louisiana to dissolve the Union between the State of Louisiana and other states united with her.... New Orleans: Pessou & Simon, [1861].

Lithographed broadside, 540 x 645 mm. Text in parallel English and French, facsimile signatures, lithographed border incorporating two hand-colored flags of the Republic of Louisiana. Toned, stain along central fold, closed tears and several small chips on left half of document. Framed.

The ordinance was adopted on Jan. 26, 1861 and the image of the flag present on this broadside was in official use for only two weeks, the period between Louisiana's secession from the United States and union with the Confederacy. Parrish & Willingham 2982.
